Date: March 2, 2009

The College of Architecture is proud to announce that their Design/Build competition team is continuing the Aggie tradition of leadership and excellence. The team took 1st place in the Region 5 competition, leading all competing colleges from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas for the Design/Build category. The team is heading to the national competition in San Diego on March 3rd where they will face the winning D/B teams from the other 6 regions.

About the Competition

Every year the Associated Schools of Construction host student competitions including Heavy Civil, Commercial, and Design/Build categories. Each of the 7 regions hold their respective competitions to designate their winning teams to represent their region in the national competition. The Design/Build team is limited to 6 members, including students from both design and construction disciplines. They have 16 hours to respond to an Request for Proposal from a fictitious client with a detailed written proposal. The next day they are given 20 minutes to present to the client who is a panel of judges from the industry. This year The Beck Group sponsored the D/B category of Region 5.

Our Team

AGC-DB Team

This year the Aggies competed with a 5 member team, one member short. The team comprised of design student Carlos Ramirez and construction students Andrew Darnell, Adeel Mitha, John DiFilippo, and Aaron DiFilippo, and Dr. Boong Yeol Ryoo as coach. Each member has been dedicated to the team since the Fall of 2008, preparing and practicing for the competition for months. The preparation and competition is challenging, but the experience, lessons learned, and industry relationships makes it worth its while.
