GRADUATE PROGRAM

ADMISSION

To be considered for admission to the Master of Science in Construction Management (MSCM) degree program, students must meet the requirements of the Texas A&M University, the Office of Graduate Studies, and the Department of Construction Science. Applications for admission should be returned to the Office of Admissions and Records. The following additional information must be submitted with the application:

  • A current resume
  • A comprehensive statement (300 words maximum) describing the applicant's goals and objectives relative to the course of study to be pursued
  • At least three recommendation letters from persons familiar with the applicant's academic and professional achievements
  • GRE scores
  • Official transcripts

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for admission:

  • GRE Verbal and Quantitative scores: Minimum 1050
  • GRE Verbal: Minimum 400
  • Grade point average for the last sixty hours of undergraduate work: Minimum 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Following are a list of factors that may also be considered for admission when provided to the admissions committee:

  • Other academic achievements.
  • Leadership
  • Community activities
  • An applicant's on-site, telephone, e-mail, or similar interview with the Graduate Program Coordinator, the Department Head, or other member of the department faculty.
  • Availability of faculty who are able to oversee (chair) graduate students' programs of study.

Requirements for International Students

  • International students are required to take TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a minimum paper-based score of 550, internet-based score of 80, or computer-based score of 213.

Deadline for Application

  • We admit new students only in the summer semester.
  • All applications must be submitted by January 15 for admission in the summer of that year.
  • Applications received after January 15 will not be considered.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

All international students whose first language is not English need to pass the English Language Proficiency Exam (ELPE) administered by the Office of Measurement and Research Services at Texas A&M University in order to take MSCM core courses. A minimum score of 80 on all sections is required to pass the ELPE. Any English Language Institute (ELI) courses required as a result of low scores on the ELPE exam must be completed before MSCM core courses can be taken. SUMMER LEVELING COURSES

New students are required to take the placement exam in the following 5 areas right before the first summer session starts (usually late May):

  • Construction Practices
  • Construction Estimating
  • Construction Scheduling
  • Mechanical & Electrical Construction
  • Structural Principles and Practices

A minimum score of 80 is required to pass each placement tests. Those who do not pass a placement test are required to take the corresponding leveling courses during the summer semester:

  • COSC 601 Construction Practices
  • COSC 602 Construction Estimating
  • COSC 603 Construction Scheduling
  • COSC 606 Mechanical & Electrical Construction
  • COSC 608 Structural Principles and Practices

The above leveling courses are offered only in the summer semester. Students will be informed of the exam schedule when they receive the admission letter.

DEGREE PLANS

All students are put on the current catalog when they enter the Department of Construction Science. Students may request to be moved forward to a newer catalog. Students must complete all of the requirements for their specific catalog.
