Archives

The CRS Center Archives include the business records of CRS and CRSS over a time span of 47 years, from the firm's inception in 1946 to 1994, with the earlier years comprising the majority of the collection. We have recently completed the cataloging of a major portion of the archives that include the slides, photographs, video and audiotapes, articles, and business and personal records of the firm. In addition, we have recently acquired a sizeable collection of EFL (Educational Facilities Laboratories) publications. The value of the archives to business researchers is obvious and the collection is particularly useful to students who are interested in the process of design, something usually invisible or shown without context in most architectural publications. Many CRS projects are documented from client squatters and design charettes on audio tape to programs and design development slides to final drawings and photos.

The last five years at the Center have involved the organization of the design and business archives of the firm (which have nearly doubled since its divestiture), and the creation of an oral history collection involving interviews with over fifty past leaders of the firm.

We are located on the ground floor of the Willams Administration Building in Room 006. Feel free to come by anytime between 8-12, 1-5 Monday through Friday to search our database and view records, slides, or photos, listen to audio tapes, or make copies of these documents in the Center. Our databases can also be accessed on the CRS Center Website. You can also reach us at (979) 847-9357 or email us at crscenter@archmail.tamu.edu.

Materials cannot be checked out from the Center except by special arrangement since all of our material is original and most is one-of-a-kind. However, copies and scans can be made within the Center and slides can be copied on campus through our arrangement. There are also workspaces within the Center where you can view materials over extended periods, leaving the materials reserved for your use.
