Kathy
Dunn Hamrick received her BA in Modern Dance in 1981
from the University of Texas and her MFA in Performance and Choreography
in 1984 from
Florida State University. She has taught at Stephen F. Austin
State University, where she directed the Repertory Dance Company,
the
University of Texas and Florida State University. Kathy currently
co-directs Hamrick/Warren Dance, a professional modern dance
studio
in Austin, Texas, where she teaches beginning through professional levels of
modern dance technique and open movement. Kathy also teaches
Choreography and Anatomy for Dancers at Austin Community College.
She is the
Artistic Director of her own dance company, the Kathy
Dunn Hamrick
Dance Company, and has received numerous awards and
recognitions for her choreography including: Austin Critics
Table Award
for Outstanding Dance Concert 2002; selection for the Austin
American-Statesman's "Best of Arts 2000-2002"
and for the Austin Chronicle's "Top Ten Dance Events of 1999";
and selection for the semi-final platform
of the French choreography competition, Rencontres Choregraphiques.
Most recently, her work was selected for a Mainstage performance
during Toronto's Fringe Festival of Independent Artists. Kathy
also teaches creative movement to 2nd and 3rd graders at Smith
Elementary as part of "Young Dancers," one of her company's
outreach
programs, and co-directs "To The Dance," another company-sponsored
arts learning program for high-risk teens at Crockett High
School.
