ONGOING EXHIBITS AND EVENTS

Venice to Venice with Matthew Brown
Tuesday, August 21 - Friday, October 12, Center Gallery of the J. Wayne Stark Galleries;
With rigid angles and shapes, Colorado artist Matthew Brown illustrates scenes from his travels, often connecting lighting and space with color. This in-depth focus on experience is portrayed by eliminating “clutter,” as he puts it, in order to articulate his message to the viewer. Much in the way that a poet carefully considers every word that he pens, Brown focuses on deliberate placement of his lines and color combinations to convey the essence of a scene.

East Village Opera Co.
Tuesday, October 30, 7:30 PM, G. Rollie White Coliseum;
In 2004, deep in New York City’s East Village, music - the likes of which had never been heard - began erupting through the alleys and down the streets. The East Village Opera Company was taking form. Some three years later, the company is a bona fide smash playing to packed houses overtaking Gotham and the rest of the nation. Equal parts rock and opera, this ensemble brings together a powerhouse five-piece band, a string quartet and two outstanding vocalists for a concert featuring hard-hitting arrangements of opera’s greatest hits – including Rigoletto’s “La donna è mobile” and Carmen’s “Habanera.”
