Electric La-Tex

A festival of student music coordinated by Jeff Morris. This festival will feature new technology-based music from LSU, Rice, TAMU, Tulane, UNT, and UT; concerts and art installations; a new surrond sound diffusion system; and the premiere of the TAMU Laptet.

Leslie Dworkin has been choreographing, teaching, and performing internationally for the past 15 years including residencies in Puebla, Mexico, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Wolfeboro’s Arts on the Edge Festival, and at Jacob’s Pillow and Joyce SoHo, to name a few. She has performed in the works of such noted choreographers as Ralph Lemon, Maureen Fleming, Kei Takei/Moving Earth, and Bebe Miller, among others; and in the dance companies of Leah Stein, and Melanie Stewart Dance Theatre.

Water Color Painting Workshop
Thursday, November 12; 6:30pm; Room 603, Evans Library Annex, Texas A&M University;
J Wayne Stark Galleries is hosting a water color painting workshop with artist Lee Cohen for all levels, beginners to professionals. Lee Cohen will help the participants in exploring the techniques of water color paintings. A varied still life will be set up from which each participant has to choose whatever aspect they find intriguing and work on it.. Lee Cohen believes in learning by doing.  In the process participants will learn about design and composition; using washes and glazes (which involves learning about colors) and wet into wet painting vs. dry brush. Materials will be provided by the University Art Galleries.  The workshop aims at freeing the artist within through the medium of watercolor.

Artist in Residence Lecture by Judith Pfaff

Internationally acclaimed artist will visit classes and students and wrap up with a lecture and visual presentation on her artwork. Balancing intense planning with improvisational decision-making, Pfaff creates exuberant, sprawling sculptures and installations that weave landscape, architecture, and color into a tense yet organic whole.

The Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts announces the Visual and Performing Arts Instructional Enhancement Grant
Friday, November 6, 2009; Due by 5:00pm; Rudder 101;
The Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts has established this competitive grant program to promote and nurture the visual and performing arts instruction by any full-time faculty of Texas A&M University. Grants will provide support for a production, performance, or exhibition of creative activities in courses taught primarily in the Colleges of Architecture, Education, and Liberal Arts, as well as other fields in which external funding for such activity is generally limited. These grants are intended to encourage interdisciplinary efforts between colleges that provide or enhance the educational experience for students in the arts, and expose these programs to the university and community at-large. The maximum award amount is $5,000, and must be turned in by the deadline of November 6, 2009, 5pm, for courses being offered in the Spring Semester.
