College of Architecture announces
several administrative appointments

In preparation for the 2006-07 academic year, Tom Regan, dean of the College of Architecture recently announced a number of administrative changes at the college and department levels. The changes take effect July 1, 2006.

Executive associate dean: Dr. Mark Clayton is stepping down after five years of service in this position, and Dr. Guillermo Vasquez de Velasco will take over at the college’s new executive associate dean. Vasquez de Velasco will continue his work with distance learning, continuing education, and study abroad programs as director of outreach. The position is full-time, though Vasquez de Velasco will continue to be responsible for delivering the Los Americas Virtual Design Studio every fall semester.

Associate dean for research: Dr. Lou Tassinary will continue in this position, and also become director of graduate studies. This position will change from its present allocation as half-time administration and half-time teaching to three-quarter time administration and one-quarter teaching.

Associate dean for innovation and initiatives: With the elimination of the associate dean for outreach as a separate position, the college will establish a new position: associate dean for innovation and initiatives. This position, to be filled from the faculty, will be a half-time administration and half-time teaching position. An appointment should be made prior to the fall 2006 semester.

Assistant dean for undergraduate studies: Mr. Leslie Feigenbaum will continue serving the college in this full-time position.

Assistant dean for business and finance: Mr. Craig Griffith will continue serving the college in this position, although his duties will now focus on finance and personnel.

Assistant dean for administration: This new staff position, to be established this summer, will focus on administration of the college’s computer support operation and of the physical facilities.

Assistant to the dean: Ms. Sue Wade will continue in this position, which she has held for the last 18 years.

Interim director, Center for Health Systems + Design: While Dr. Mardelle Shepley is on faculty development leave for the 2006-07 academic year, associate professor Kirk Hamilton has agreed to serve as interim director of CHSD.

Interim head, Department of Architecture: Dr. Mardelle Shepley is stepping down, concluding one year of service in this position, and she will take a yearlong faculty development leave. After consulting with the faculty of the department and interviewing four candidates for the position, Dean Regan has recommended to EVP/Provost Prior that Dr. Mark Clayton be appointed interim department head on 1 July. Dr. Clayton will select his associate department head and other departmental administrators during the month of July. His appointment is for two years or until the appointment of a permanent head, whichever comes first.

Interim head, Department of Construction Science: After conferring with the faculty of the department, Dean Regan has recommended to EVP/Provost Prior that Dr. Charles Graham be reappointed interim head of the department for another year. Assistant professor Joe Horlen will continue as associate department head for a second year.

Head, Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning: Dr. Forster Ndubisi will continue as head of the department, a position he has held for two years. Dr. Chang-Shan Huang will continue as associate department head.
