The Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning (LAUP) invites applications for a faculty position at the Associate “Executive” Professor level, with expertise in Land and Real Estate Development, starting Fall 2008. Primary areas of concentration include site planning and development, development-related financial modeling and decision support systems, and residential development.

The Master of Science in Land Development (MSLD), where design meets business, is an entrepreneurship-oriented program focused on financially feasible, environmentally sensible, socially responsible, and politically acceptable land & real estate development.

Candidates should be qualified to teach core and elective courses in the MSLD, mentor graduate students in land and real- estate development to guide their final studies, and in general, direct and serve on graduate committees. Applicants with a Ph.D. in development, planning, or a related field, and/or with interdisciplinary education encompassing both the physical and financial aspects of development are preferred. The Department is particularly interested in candidates who have an established hands-on track record in the real estate development industry; a strong potential for research and publication; and a commitment to mentoring students for success in the Real Estate Development Industry.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning contains 35 full-time faculty members and offers the following six degrees: the Bachelor of Urban and Regional Science, the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, the Master of Landscape Architecture, the Master in Urban Planning, the Master of Science in Land Development, and the Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Science. The department has strong interdisciplinary ties to the world-renowned Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center, the Texas Transportation Institute, the Heritage Conservation Center, and other centers and certificate programs in related fields within the College of Architecture. The College of Architecture at Texas A&M University is one of the largest of its kind in the United States. Over 100 faculty members in the departments of Architecture, Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning (LAUP), Construction Science, and Visualization serve over 1800 students in 13 degree programs. These cover the entire spectrum of professional and academic disciplines having to do with designing, planning, developing, constructing, and managing the built environment.
