ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR in LANDSCAPE ARCHTECTURE

The Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning (LAUP) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Associate Professor level, with expertise in applications of spatial information technologies including geographical information systems (GIS) in design and planning, starting Fall 2008.

Candidates should be qualified to teach design studios and specialty elective courses in the professional Bachelor and Master degree programs in landscape architecture, and in directing and serving on graduate committees. The Department is particularly interested in candidates who have a strong potential for research and peer-reviewed scholarship. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach design and planning studios as well as courses in spatial analysis and applications of spatial information technologies, including GIS. A Ph.D. degree is required. Applicants must also have completed at least one degree in landscape architecture. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. A generous startup package will be awarded to successful candidates.

The Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning contains 35 full-time faculty members and offers the following six degrees: the Bachelor of Urban and Regional Science, the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, the Master of Landscape Architecture, the Master in Urban Planning, the Master of Science in Land Development, and the Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Science. The department has strong interdisciplinary ties to the world-renowned Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center, the Texas Transportation Institute, the Heritage Conservation Center, and other centers and certificate programs in related fields within the College of Architecture. The College of Architecture at Texas A&M University is one of the largest of its kind in the United States. Over 100 faculty members in the departments of Architecture, Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning (LAUP), Construction Science, and Visualization serve over 1800 students in 13 degree programs. These cover the entire spectrum of professional and academic disciplines having to do with designing, planning, developing, constructing, and managing the built environment.
