Academics

Undergraduate Programs
Those who enroll in the Bachelor of Environmental
Design engage in a degree program that fosters creativity and problem-solving
skills, provides extensive knowledge of architectural history and theory, cultivates
high levels of knowledge and capability in building and design technology, and
enables students to be contributors in careers in the industries supporting
the built and virtual environments.
Students in the BED undertake either the Architectural Studies Option or the
Visual Studies Option. The Architectural Studies Option is intended for those
whose career goal is an architect license or other career in the building industry.
Those who undertake the Visual Studies Option specialize in visual and electronic
arts. Students in both options participate in one semester of off-campus study
that equips them with experience that contrasts with that offered in College
Station. Off-campus study may be study abroad, internship, or study at another
U.S. university.
Students may also undertake minor courses of study in the following areas offered
by the department and the College of Architecture:
Minor in Art and Architecture History
Minor in Global Studies in Art, Design, Planning and Construction
Graduate Programs
Students who have completed a Bachelor degree pursue advanced studies in the
four graduate programs of the Department of Architecture. The
Master of Architecture is a professional, National
Architectural Accreditation Board accredited program that satisfies educational
requirements of the architectural licensing process of most states. It is intended
for those who have obtained a Bachelor degree in architecture or closely related
field. The Career Change Program is
a one-year program that enables students who lack previous education in architecture
to become prepared to enter the Master of Architecture program. The Master
of Science in Architecture and the PhD
in Architecture are advanced degrees for those who wish to obtain advanced,
specialized expertise and contribute new knowledge of architecture. The Master
of Science in Visualization Sciences is a unique program that is focused
upon the art and science of computer graphics, animation, and visualization.
Courses
An extensive catalog of courses under the
abbreviations of ARTS, ENDS, ARCH, VIST, and VIZA address a wide range of topics
in the built and virtual environments.
