Relationship Between Faculty and Students
Ph.D. students must have one member and up
to three members from outside the department that
comprise "the committee." This creates an opportunity
for Architecture faculty to meet and assess the talents of
faculty outside the department.
There are some 20-30 Architecture faculty who presently either chair or are on the committees of Ph.D. degree seeking students. The contact between faculty and students is intense and will last 3-5 years.
Faculty interests are extended by contact with Ph.D. students and their ensuing interests. The generation of NEW KNOWLEDGE presents faculty with concerns that expand their own knowledge base and outline further study.
NEW METHODOLOGIES are introduced to the faculty through the student's participation with cross-disciplinary committees. These methodologies expand the faculty's capabilities, as well as the student's range of inquiry.
