Health Industry Advisory Council
- What is The Health Industry Advisory Council?
-
The Health Industry Advisory Council (HIAC) was founded in 2002 to support the
activities of the Center for Health Systems & Design and students in the College of Architecture with an interest in health
design and research. The initial goals of HIAC were:
- To create exciting and effective university-industry partnerships
that contributes significantly to the creation of better healthcare
environments.
- To tap the expertise of HIAC leaders to help create the
world's best university-based education program in healthcare design.
- To engage with HIAC firms and corporations to generate high
impact research to demonstrate that good healthcare design improves
medical / economic
outcomes.
- To undertake research projects that advance the state of
sound knowledge for evidence-based design and empower the transformation
of healthcare
architecture.
- To initiate funded healthcare design studio projects comprised
of collaborations among HIAC professional firms and corporations
and Texas A&M
University faculty and students.
- To enhance funding, resources and capabilities for the healthcare
design and research program at Texas A&M
University.
Benefits to HIAC Member Firms
Participation in HIAC is by invitation and requires a $5,000 professional
membership fee. We have recently added an opportunity for corporate membership
that requires
a $10,000 membership fee. Membership fees are due yearly and their benefits
are listed below. We anticipate that all members will share the desire for
student and faculty contact. Other benefits, such as potential involvement
with tailored healthcare research, will also be available. Like our initial
goals, the benefits to member firms will evolve as we mutually discover the
full potential of the HIAC organization. Initial benefits include:
Student Contact: At each HIAC meeting you will meet with students enrolled
in the graduate certificate program in Healthcare Design.
Faculty Contact: Each HIAC meeting will include special presentations
by healthcare faculty about new research and findings.
Research Access: Exclusive access to research expertise and services
(e.g.; literature reviews) on specific issues of interest to your firm.
Visiting Lectures: Invitations to give visiting lectures in healthcare
classes at A&M.
Firm Presentations: Opportunities to present your firm's work
to students and faculty.
Firm Participation: The name of your firm will be displayed on
CHSD publications
Information: Entry to an exclusive, limited-access website with
resumes of current health design students, faculty expertise resumes, current
healthcare issues, and upcoming events.
Research-related news: Contributing Members can have their research-related
news and information included in the CHSD newsletter.
The current Health Industry Advisory Council members have enabled the
Center to be a stable and innovative organization that has assumed a
significant international role in the promotion of original and appropriate
heath care environments. Some of its previous accomplishments are: supported
travel of multiple students and faculty to participate in health conferences,
covered expenses associated with the guest lecturer program, provided
support for a student research assistantship, and funded the CHSD newsletter.
