Event Overview “Dialogo” is the Spanish word for “dialogue” Latino Dialogo in Texas, an event aimed at advancing the Latino agenda in planning, is part of a national initiative of the recently created Latinos and Planning Division of the American Planning Association (APA). While several dialogos have been organized across the United States by local communities, the Feb. 15 event at the Memorial Student Center on the Texas A&M campus in College, Station will be the first such initiative in Texas. Though the issues examined at Latino Dialogo in Texas will relate to the Texas Latino community and Latino planners, the discussion will also inform the national agenda for Planning and Latinos. In order to assure broad participation, a steering committee was formed with representatives from Texas A&M University, including the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, the College of Architecture, and the Center for Housing and Urban Development, as well as the cities of College Station and Bryan, Texas and the Brazos Valley Council of Governments. Latino Dialogo in Texas is chaired by Dr. Cecilia Giusti, assistant professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, with assistance from Miriam Olivares, a Ph.D. candidate in the department's Urban and Regional Science program.
