Dr. Ryoo Awarded Research Project from Kyung Won
Date: March 3, 2009
Dr. Boong Yeol Ryoo has awarded a research project of $300,000 from Kyung
Won Vocational College in Korea. It is a three year research project on
developing a framework and architecture for activity-based project
management simulation. The main objective of this research is to develop a
logical model of multilayer management simulation in multidimensional (nD)
spaces.
The modeling of project administration and management becomes more complex
and complicated due to the nature of construction projects. Thus, a
template-based workflow simulation algorithm for project management, which
includes the development of a non-numeric, template-based, time-step
simulation framework and a computerized simulator, is essential in the
performance measurement in management transactions. Due to significant
implementation of construction automation and information technology in
construction in specific project management aspects, project planners do not
seek out traditional simulation techniques to estimate the performance of
project management prior to project initiation. Limited capabilities of the
existing simulation algorithms restrict their applicability in this outlook.
In order to eliminate the limitations of existing simulation algorithms and
functionality, a non-numeric, non-programming, template-based, time-step
simulation algorithm using workflow must be studied.
CLIPS will be used as an essential tool for the project. CLIPS, C Language
Integrated Production System developed by NASA, is a productive development
and delivery expert system tool which provides a complete environment for
the construction of rule and/or object based expert systems. CLIPS is also
an object-oriented symbolic language which can be embedded in any platform.
