Every Construction Science undegraduate student must complete an internship.
Construction Management graduate students may complete an internship. There
are two undergraduate course numbers and one graduate course number for internships.
- COSC 484 Summer Internship: minimum 400-hour work program, 10 weeks required,
3 credit hours. Can be be used as Technical Elective II. Does not satisty College
of Architecture semester away requirement.
- COSC 494 Professional Internship: minimum 600-hour work program, 15 weeks
required, 6 credit hours. Satisfies College of Architecture semester away
requirement.
- COSC 684 Graduate Internship: minimum
400-hour work program, 10 weeks required, 3 credit hours. Fall, Spring, or
Summer Internship.
It is recommended that undergraduate students take their internship in the second semester
of the junior year. Note that a completed internship is a prerequisite for
several 400-level COSC courses. Many students do more
than one internship, although only one is required. Internships may only be
satisfied by continuous employment with a single employer for the duration
required by the course curriculum. A second internship may be taken for credit
and used as Technical Elective II.
Each student is required to find their internship assignment and to negotiate
the terms and conditions of their internship with the employer. Students
may only use an employer who has completed a Master Internship Agreement with
Texas A&M University. A listing of qualified employers is available at
the link below. If a student wants to work
for a company that does not have a Master Internship Agreement in place, they
should notify the Department's Industry Relations Coordinator to determine
if the proposed company can complete a master internship agreement. Each student
must complete an Individual Internship Agreement and have it approved by the
Industry Relations Coordinator BEFORE beginning an internship.
The internship experience is intended to enhance classroom learning with a
related, meaningful work experience. During the internship, the student should
seek exposure to multiple construction management processes.
