Faculty Opening Annoucement
The Department of Construction Science at Texas A&M University is conducting
a global search for new faculty.
The Department of Construction Science is one of the largest programs of construction
higher education in the world. Currently there are 25 multi-disciplinary faculty
in the Construction Science program with approximately 675 undergraduate students
and 100 Master's students. Two students are currently pursuing a Ph.D.
in Architecture with a construction emphasis; a proposal for a Ph.D. in Construction
is under consideration by the University. The program anticipates steady growth
in student population for the next five years.
The Construction Science program is housed in the College of Architecture
with extraordinary opportunities for interdisciplinary research and teaching.
The College of Architecture, with nearly 2000 students, is the largest College
of Architecture in the nation. In addition to Construction Science, the College
has Departments of Architecture and Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning.
In January 2008, a new Department of Visualization will be created.
New faculty are required to provide teaching and research across the spectrum
of Construction Science disciplines. Positions are available for:
- Tenured or tenure-track faculty in all disciplines. Exceptionally
qualified applicants may be hired as Associate Professor with tenure-on-arrival.
It is required that candidates for these positions hold a Ph.D. or a terminal
academic degree in their discipline. Candidates should have at least five years
of construction management experience. Successful candidates will have expectations
in teaching, research and service.
-
Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in all disciplines. A Master's degree in Construction
Science, or a related discipline, and at least 10 years of construction management
experience are required. These are not tenure-accruing positions and will
have expectations for teaching and service.
- One of these positions will be a 12-month position for an Industry Relations
Coordinator, who serves as a focal point for industry relations with the
Department. Responsibilities include the Department's Internship Program,
the Department's
Industry Advisory Council, and managing the Department's Career Fairs.
Most faculty are full time, hired on nine-month contracts, with the opportunity
for conducting research, continuing education, or industry internships in the
summer months. Salaries are highly competitive and depend on the candidate's
credentials. The positions are available immediately with a late summer 2008
expected date of hire; an earlier start date may be possible. The review of
applications will begin upon receipt and conclude on Jan 31, 2008. Highly qualified
applicants will be invited to visit the campus.
The Department has teaching needs across the curriculum, which can be viewed
