Position Announcement- Assistant Professor in Landscape Architecture

The Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning (http://archone.tamu.edu/laup/) at Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level with expertise in landscape architecture beginning Fall 2007.

The Department of Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning contains 37 interdisciplinary faculty and lecturers. In addition to the professionally accredited bachelor and master degrees in Landscape Architecture, the department also offers masters degrees in Urban Planning and Land Development, and a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Science.

A distinctive feature of the department is its commitment to improving the knowledge base of the landscape architecture and urban planning professions through research. The department and college support some of the most active research programs in the country. Awards of externally funded research in the college typically amount to about $4-5.5 million per year. The diversity of faculty interests is represented by the wide range of research undertaken. Research activity is focused on the College's five formally organized research centers and laboratories including the internationally recognized programs in hazard reduction, health care design, housing and urban development, and historic conservation.

The Department also supports an active service-learning program through its Partnership for Community Outreach. The outreach program supports graduate students and classes in undertaking planning, design, and development projects as an integral component of the learning experience.

The College of Architecture has over 100 faculty in the departments of Architecture, Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning, and Construction Science with over 1,800 registered students in 12 degree programs. Texas A&M University is a comprehensive teaching and research university with an enrollment of approximately 44,000 students including over 8,000 graduate and professional students. Located in College Station, the university is 90 miles northwest of Houston and has easy access to Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should be qualified to teach core and elective courses in the Bachelor and Master of Landscape Architecture programs. The Department is interested in candidates who have a strong potential for peer-reviewed scholarship and a demonstrated ability to teach in the areas of landscape construction and design studio. Applicants must have at least one professional degree in landscape architecture and a related graduate degree. Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. degree and/or professional registration. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. A generous start up package will be awarded to the successful candidate.
