Scholarships and Fellowships

Department Scholarships

BLA - Samuel E. Garrett Jr. Endowed Memorial Scholarship - Endowed by Sam and Alice Garrett in memory of their son Sam; awarded to an undergraduate student completing the third year, outstanding in scholastic achievement and demonstrating personal and professional growth.  Must have a 2.5 GPR overall.

BLA - Robert F. & Florence H. White Endowed Scholarship in Landscape Architecture - Endowed by Robert F. and Florence H. White; awarded to a student completing his fourth-year  in landscape architecture whose performance in departmental related courses has proved outstanding.

BLA - Antonio F. Sarabando Jr. "Spirit of Place Award" - Endowed by Antonio F. Sarabando Jr. '85, and dedicated to his parents, Antonio and Maria Sarabando; awarded to an undergraduate  who has completed his 2nd or 3rd year in the 5 year program, and who most contributes to the unique "spirit of place".

BLA    Michael D. Murphy Endowed Scholarship -Endowed by George W. Seagraves ’80 in honor of Michael D. Murphy, a professor of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning since 1969; awarded to an undergraduate landscape architecture student demonstrating progress towards completing a professional degree in a timely fashion. 

BLA    Robert E. Castro Memorial Scholarship -Established in memory of Robert E. Castro; awarded to fourth or fifth year student in the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program who demonstrates excellence in academic performance, leadership, willingness to assist fellow students; exhibits a deep passion and commitment to the profession of landscape architecture.

BLA   TBG/Robert E. Castro Memorial Scholarship - Established in memory of Robert E. Castro; awarded to fourth or fifth year student in the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program who demonstrates excellence in academic performance, leadership, willingness to assist fellow students; exhibits a deep passion and commitment to the profession of landscape architecture.

BLA or MLA -Gene Schrickel Jr. '50 Endowed Scholarship in Landscape Architecture - Endowed by Gene and Helen Schrickel in memory of Gene's parents, Ollie and Blanche, who encouraged and supported his pursuit of a college degree; awarded to a full-time undergraduate, third year or above, or to a graduate student, demonstrating academic excellence (3.0 GPR) and design potential pursuing a degree in landscape architecture.  Financial need is an important consideration in a selection decision between two or more highly qualified candidates.

BLA or MLA - ASLA Texas Chapter Maurice Phillips Scholarship - Awarded to recognize scholarship, financial need and moral character and emphasizes the student's contributions to the profession through activities with the Student Chapter ASLA, workshop or other related activities.  Student recommended by department faculty.  

MUP - Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association Scholarships - Established by the Education Foundation of the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association; awarded to students pursuing a master of urban planning degree based on scholastic achievement. 
Dr. David Pugh solicits money from APA each year

MUP - The David Pugh Planning and Land Use Law Scholarship  - Established by McDonald Associates of Dallas, Texas, in honor of Dr. David Pugh, associate professor of urban planning; awarded to a Texas resident entering the Master of Urban Planning program who has demonstrated scholarship, an interest in public service and an interest in planning and land use law.

MUP -  The Jesus “Chuy” Hinojosa Academic Excellence Award - Designed to recognize graduating MUP students who have earned a 4.0 grade point ratio.
             
MSLD - MSLD Gibson Scholarship - Funds donated by the Heirs of M.O. Gibson after completion of a land development project in Lufkin, Texas.  The monies are to be used for scholarship for deserving Master of Science in Land Development students. 

URSC - Wolfgang Roeseler Scholarship in Urban and Regional Science
Funds donated by Eva Roeseler in memory of her husband, Wolfgang Roeseler; to be awarded to a US citizen who is an outstanding and worthy Ph.D Candidate in the Urban and Regional Science Program.

URSC - Jesus Hinojosa Endowed Scholarship—Established by alumni, and friends to recognize the accomplishments of Jesus (Chuy) Hinojosa; awarded to a Ph.D student in the Urban and Regional Science Program in recognition of scholastic achievement and leadership.

College Wide Scholarship

Rotates to every department.

Undergraduate or Graduate student - R. Joseph Reeves Endowed Memorial Scholarship - Endowed by the Roy T. Reeves Family Trust;  awarded to a graduate or undergraduate student in the College of Architecture in good academic standing.

Colonel James E. Ray  '63 Endowed Scholarship - Established by alumni, colleagues and friends to recognize the accomplishments of Colonel James E. Ray '63; awarded on a rotating basis to a full-time student in one of the three College of Architecture departments. The award is based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities and financial need.
