	In addition to books and periodicals, the TRC collects newsletters, bulletins, college publications, college catalogs, foreign study material, theses & dissertations, manufacturer's catalogs and general reference material such as telephone books and directories.	Special Collections A special collection of approximately 1500 art and architecture related rare books is part of the TRC collection. Due to the fragile nature of most of the books, staff assistance is required in photocopying and handling this material. Special collections books are restricted to in library use only. Ask for assistance at the circulation desk.

TRC Furniture Collection The TRC maintains a collection of designer furniture in use throughout the Center. Pahlmann, New York interior designer of the 1930's through the 1970's, is held within the Technical Reference Center. This collection was presented to the College in the late 1980's shortly before Mr. Pahlmann's death. Mr. Pahlmann was a native of San Antonio. The Collection contains: A collection of visual materials including 2,500 slides, many photographs and many transparencies of the interiors Mr. Pahlmann designed and the antiques he owned. Magazines, newspaper articles, press releases and clipping related to Mr. Pahlmann's work. Approximately 850 art, architecture and design related books. Business and personal correspondence The Technical Reference Center also owns an antique portfolio table and watercolor painting by artist Dong Kingman, longtime friend of Mr. Pahlmann. Both the table and the painting belonged to Mr. Pahlmann. A complete, downloadable, searchable Excel database that lists and describes the collection can be found here (MS Excel, 888KB). Ralph Ellis Gunn Collection (Partial archive of the work of Ralph Ellis Gunn, Landscape Architect) The library holds a partial archive of the work of Ralph Ellis Gunn, prominent Landscape Architect who designed extensively in the River Oaks area of Houston in the 1950's, 60's and early 70's. The collection includes sets of landscaping plans for residences in Houston, other areas in Texas, Indiana, Louisiana, Florida, and Mississippi. Mr. Gunn was also famous for the restoration of the grounds and gardens of several plantations including Rosedown Plantation near St. Francisville, Louisiana. The TRC's slide collection contains over 950 of Mr. Gunn's slides which profile many of his works. Danny Lyon Photograph Collection Texas A&M University is proud to own thirty photographs taken by photographer Danny Lyon and have them on permanent loan and display with the Technical Reference Center. Danny Lyon, a post-Second World War documentary photographer, is famous for his representations of people. Lyon has received Guggenheim Fellowships in both photography and film making. Eight photographs from the series are displayed each semester in the library for study and appreciation and are regularly viewed by photography classes. Raiford Stripling Restorations Photographs Within the library are displayed 26 large-format photographs (some measuring 4' x 5') of Texas historical buildings restored by architect, and A&M graduate, Raiford Stripling. The photographs, of which there were originally 52, were part of a Raiford Stripling exhibit in the early 1980's. These large black & white photographs of missions, churches, homes and historic buildings are often used as subjects for drawing assignments. San Augustino(Stripling Colection) Bolivian Wall Hanging Wall hanging was given to the University by the family of a Bolivian Aggie, and is on permanent loan to the Technical Reference Center. It was received from J. Wayne Stark, Special Assistant to the President for Cultural Development. Received: 1985. Kenneth D. Williams Award Collection Collection includes (presently) 27 books. Award established in 1965 by Col. & Mrs. Williams in memory of their son who was an ENDS student, 1962-64. Classmates and friends contributed to endow this award. Kenneth died in Dallas in the Fall semester of his junior year, 1964. The award consists of a book and certificate presented to an outstanding Junior student in Architecture each Spring. The TRC receives and keeps a copy of the book with an appropriate memorial bookplate inside. Modern Healthcare Design Award Submissions The past ten years of Modern Healthcare Design Award Submissions are available in the TRC as a resource for students, researchers, faculty and practitioners. This collection is comprised of the world's best Health Facility Projects.
